Discovery Learning Alliance (DLA) Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has provided 80 schools in the Yendi Municipality of Northern Region with 160 Samsung flat screen Television Sets.
Each of the 80 schools would receive 40 inches and 32 inches of the Samsung flat TV sets for the teaching and learning of various subjects of the Primary and Junior High Schools.
Each school would also receive 77 video cassettes of various subjects for the learning centres of the beneficiary schools.
Some of the beneficiary schools include; Seventh – Day Adventist (SDA) Junior High School, Balogu Junior High School, Kulikpeni Junior High School, S.D.A Primary School, Balogu Primary School, T.I Ahamadiyya Junior High School.
Mr Francis Tella, a Teacher Trainee of Discovery Learning Alliance announced this during a day’s training workshop on managing the learning centre for success and sustainability for teachers, Headteachers, Parent Teachers Associations, School Management Committees and other stakeholders.
Mr Tella indicated that for the phase one training workshops, it was organised for 60 schools and phase two 20 schools, in the Yendi Municipality.
He announced that in the Northern Region 800 schools from nine Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies would benefit from the project.
They mentioned the beneficiaries as; Tamale Metropolitan, Yendi Municipal, Savelugu Municipal, West Mamprusi, Karaga, Tolon, Central Gonja, East Gonja and Sanerigu Districts.
He said the 40 inch Samsung flat screen TV sets would be at the learning centres while the 32 inch Sets would be in the Headteachers’ office.
He said DLA is also providing each school with Video decks, a stabilizer and TV generators for the centres and offices. He indicated that.
Mr. Tella stated that each school would form nine member management committees with Learning Centre Coordinators, Resource Teachers (RTs’) including others.
He said in order to ensure that all the items in the learning centres are safe, each centre would have iron doors with padlocks and security men.
He warned the Headteachers not to send the TV Sets allocated to their office to their rooms for personnel use.
He advised them to keep all the items well as they would bear the cost of any of the items that would be stolen.
Mrs. Jalan Yaa Comfort, the Girl-Child Coordinator of the Yendi Ghana Education Service advised the Headteachers to send the TV Sets to competent TV repairers for repairs anytime there was any problem.
