Nangodi (U/E) July 26, GNA – Disaster Volunteer Groups (DVGs) in the Talensi-Nabdam district and the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region have appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the government to assist them with more financial assistance to cultivate their farms. Mr. Sampson Naya and Mr. Anirikema Akapiire, chairmen of the Nangodi and Sumbrungu DVGs respectively made the appeal during an inspection tour on their group farms by a three-man team from the National Headquarters of NADMO.
The Bolgatanga Municipal Co-ordinator of NADMO, Mr. Nyaba Agambila conducted the team led by Mr. Dokurugu Naambuyi, Assistant Chief Disaster Control Officer (ACDCO) round some of the DVGs farms and nurseries at Nangodi and Sumbrungu. At Nangodi in the Talensi-Nabdam district, the team inspected a nursery of 14,000 different kinds of tree seedlings and a three-farm acre of cashio.
The team also inspected a pepper nursery and a six-acre millet farm at Sumbrungu in the Bolgatanga Municipality. Mr. Naabuyi commended the DVGs for their hard work and urged them to keep it up. He also promised to convey their concerns to the head of NADMO for consideration. He asked them to educate the public on the dangers of building along waterways and in swampy areas. Mr. Agambila called on the DVGs to team up with traditional authorities, assembly members and unit committees to form disaster clubs to enable them to sensitise their communities on disaster issues.
