Diplomatic Passport holders need no visas to travel to Turkey

The Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Penbe Nesrin Bayazit, said Ghanaians with diplomatic passports do not need visas to travel to Turkey.

A statement issued in Accra by Colonel M’bawine Atintande (Rtd), Public Affairs Director, and copied to Ghana News Agency, said the Turkish Government had put in place a Mutual Abolition of Visas Protocol which allows Ghanaians with diplomatic passports who wish to travel to Turkey to do so without the need of a visa.

Madam Bayazit said this when she met with the Minister of Defence, Mr Dominic Nitiwul, in Accra.

The Ambassador, however, expressed concern about the non-implementation of some agreements and protocols signed between the two countries and urged the minister to assist in facilitating their implementation.

She pointed particularly to a Framework Agreement on Military Cooperation which, she said, “is yet to see the light of day”.

She encouraged the affected Ghanaians who wish to visit or do business in Turkey to feel free to travel there.

Mr Nitiwul agreed with the Ambassador that Ghanaians should take advantage of the opportunity provided by Turkey and do business with that country.

He said the Ministry would forward to the Turkish Embassy suggestions in relation to some of the draft agreements mentioned for further deliberations.

The meeting was part of efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries.

Present at the meeting were the Chief Director at the Ministry, Dr Evans A. Dzikunu, and other senior civilian and military staff of the Ministry.
