Dickson: I will restructure NPP

Accra, Oct. 13, GNA – An aspiring general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday pledged to restructure the party from the grassroots as well as the entire public relations department to ensure total victory in the 2008 elections.

Mr. Abeeku Dickson, a 47 year-old legal practitioner, said he was bringing on board a new image and orientation to the party to build on what previous general secretary, Mr Dan Botwe achieved for the party. He was speaking when he met the media in Accra to outline his vision and agenda for the party as part his campaign for the position of the NPP general secretary.

Mr Dickson said training of activists at all levels of the party would be his cardinal point, adding that this would lead to shape the political thinking of the people.

He slammed the national executives manning the various structures of the party as having failed the members and called for a new and dynamic leadership to attract more people.

“If we continue to run the party the way we are doing, we may loose the 2008 elections.”

Mr Dickson also promised to revive the NPP newspaper, which is the party’s mouthpiece, as well as strengthen the party’s relationship with the media for its message to be carried to the rank and file. He said his administration would operate open-door policy and make information available to all members.

Mr. Dickson called for the repositioning of the party by letting it take centre stage in all programmes and activities of the NPP to ensure massive victory in 2008. He said the party should be able to generate its own resources by investing in businesses to finance programmes rather than relying on contributions of individuals, who in the long run, turn to hijack the party.
