Diamond winner sets wife belongings ablaze

Akyem Swedru, June 26, GNA – The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Tuesday convicted Kwame Appiah, a 28-year-old diamond winner, to a fine of six million cedis or in default to go to jail for 12 months for setting his wife’s belongings ablaze.

The court also bonded Appiah in the sum of 10 million cedis to be of good behaviour for 12 months or in default to go to prison for 12 months in hard labour.

Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court that Appiah and his wife had had a series of misunderstandings and this compelled the woman to vacate her matrimonial home to stay with her mother. On May 26, the woman returned from a funeral and wase having a drink at a nearby spot when Appiah got angry.

Appiah went to his wife’s room, collected all her personal belongings valued at over 12 million cedis and set them ablaze.
