Tema, Feb 17, GNA — The Ghana Education Service, with funding from the British Department for International Development (DFID), has presented items to 300 needy pupils in the Tema Municipality to promote quality education.
The items included school uniforms, learning materials, HIV/AIDS playing kits, First Aid kits as well as 100,000 cedis scholarship for 60 girls in the municipality.
Mrs Lucy Kwapong, the Municipal Director of Education, said the DFID fund demands that beneficiary districts undertake seven compulsory activities in their districts.
The presentation is to fulfil the last three of the activities that are the School Health Education Programme, Girl-Child and Needy Pupils Package.
She expressed regret about parents who shirk their responsibilities in providing basic needs for their children’s education and advised them to place their children’s education first when planning for budget.
Mr Samuel Evans Ashong Narh, the acting Municipal Chief Executive, said in a speech read for him that the assembly would soon sponsor some trainee nurses to the Narh Bita School of Nursing. On completion, they will work in health facilities in the municipality especially in the rural communities.
