Development must be non-partisan-MP

Half Assini (W/R), July 9 GNA – Mr Lee Ocran, Member of Parliament for Jomoro said the development of the Jomoro District was the collective responsibility of all.

He said development must cut across political party affiliation and aim at improving the livelihood of the people and eliminating them from poverty.

Mr Ocran said these at a meeting of the Allowulley Citizens Association (ACA) at Allowulley in the Jomoro District of the Western Region over the weekend.

He said members of the association must use their positions and influence wherever they live to make meaningful contributions towards the creation of employment and other job opportunities for the youth. Mr Ocran said the education of children in the area must be a main focus of the association, adding, ” many parents in the area do not take the education of their children seriously”.

He suggested the establishment of a scholarship scheme for brilliant but needy pupils in the area, to facilitate their education and the development of the area.

Mr Martin Y. Ackah, District Chief Executive for Jomoro said NGOs and other civil society groups operating in the district must complement the efforts of the government.

He said the burden on the government was so large that associations and other groups would have to mobilise funds to assist in the development of their communities.

Mr Kodwo Archer, Assemblyman for Allowulley said, since agriculture is a large employer, efforts must be made by the government to make it attractive to the youth.
