Develop cogent project proposals – NDPC Official

Ho, Apr. 15, GNA – Barima Owusu Afari, Volta Region’s representative on the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has advised districts to ensure that project proposals on their choices under the Rural Enterprise Programme was cogent enough to solicit attention. Barima Afari, who is the Proprietor of Afariwa Farms, a Poultry Complex, was briefing the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) at its first 2004 meeting on Tuesday on how NDPC deliberations and programmes reflected on the region.

He said some of the project proposals he had perused at the Secretariat was not detailed enough and did not state how such companies could bring development and employment to those districts.

Under a government industrialisation and rural development programme, all districts are to set up at least three industries, which should as early as possible impact positively on the living standards of many people in the districts.

Barima Afari announced that the NDPC, in collaboration with VRCC would do a fact finding exercise in the districts to ascertain the extent of the impact of development programmes on the lives of the people. He suggested that every District Assembly puts up a District Project Information Notice Board, as a reference point on the projects going on in the various districts.

Barima Afari said the Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy (GPRS) document was being simplified for publication into the vernaculars for easy understanding by many people.
