‘Desperate’ and ‘confused’ NPP want return of dumsor – Kofi Buah

A ‘desperate’ and ‘confused’ New Patriotic Party is stopping at nothing in a bid to trick the electorate into believing there is a looming power crisis, petroleum minister Emmanuel Kofi Buah has said.

According to Kofi Buah, the opposition party is forging documents to substantiate claims that power supply from Cote d’Ivoire to the country is being suspended over the country’s inability to pay for the supply.

Reacting to a letter purportedly signed by the Minister in Charge of Petroleum for Ivory Coast claiming the country would suspend supply to Ghana and further surcharge the country $602 million for contract impairments, Emmanuel Kofi Buah said the document was a fabricated piece insisting no such threat existed.

He described it as a ploy by the NPP to reignite the fears of Ghanaians on the possible return of ‘dumsor’.

“This is really coming from the opposition, they are desperate, they are dumbfounded, they are very confused, their hope was that the “dumsor” they preached about will stay till elections, it’s gone and they don’t know how to respond to it”

He stated that the party is leading efforts to inter-connect electricity in the sub region, emphasizing the fact that the content of the letter was fabricated, and should be dismissed.

“Ghana is poised to be the net exporter of power to the sub region and we are proud of that leadership, and we are going to continue to supply power to Togo, Benin and continue to exchange power with Cote D’Ivoire…”

Ghana has witnessed a power crisis spanning more than three years in recent time and has forced several businesses out of operation.

The situation however seems to have normalized in the past few months.
