Desist from illicit sexual acts – MP tells youth

Kumasi, Jan 5, GNA – Alhaji Mubarak Muntaka, the Member of Parliament for Asawasi, has cautioned the youth in the area, especially the “Kayayees,” against unhygienic practices and illicit sexual activities that put their lives in danger.

He said the rate of teenage pregnancy coupled with unhygienic practices among them left much to be desired and cautioned them to be wary of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

These were contained in a statement delivered on his behalf at a sensitisation programme organised by Global Hope for the Development of the Helpless, a non-governmental organisation in Kumasi, to educate the Muslim youth at Asawasi.

Alhaji Muntaka said “Kayayees” and housemaids were vulnerable and suffered abuses and neglect and commended the NGO for sensitising the youth to be aware of their rights and protect themselves against abuses. Mr Yahaya Mohammed, Executive Director of the NGO, said the health, social and economic well-being of the vulnerable groups in the area were of outmost importance to the organisation and would spare no stone to support them.

He called for support for the NGO to achieve the task it has set itself.
