Dery assists farmers’ groups

Nandom, (N/R) March 26, GNA – Mr Ambrose Dery, Deputy Attorney-General has presented 20 tricycles with carriers, worth 20 million cedis to a number of women groups within the Nandom Co-operative Farmers Association and groups of women farmers in Lawra.

The tricycles, meant to ease the drudgery associated with their farming activities could be used in carting their produce, implements, fuel-wood as well as facilitating their mobility to and from their farms.

Mr Dery, an aspiring New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for Lawra/Nandom, said the donation was in recognition of the important role they play in various aspects of the country’s agriculture. The Deputy Attorney-General said the donation was also in recognition of the dominant role women play in family life. The donations were made at separate presentation ceremonies at Nandom and Lawra on Tuesday.

Ten of the tricycles are to be allocated to women groups within the Nandom Co-operative Farmers Association with the other ten shared among the women groups in the Lawra area.

Among the beneficiary groups are the Suntaanyong of Lawra, Brifoh Women’s Group, Tobogru and Kugle Women’s groups in Nandom.

The chairpersons for the groups who received the tricycles on behalf of their groups thanked the Deputy Minister for his kind gesture noting that the tricycles would enhance their farming activities. At another presentation ceremony at Nandom, Mr. Dery presented 100 plastic chairs costing 4.5 million cedis to the Nandom Parish of the Catholic Church for use at its newly constructed jubilee hall complex. Making the presentation which was received by the Parish Priest, Rev. Father Patrick Segkeb, Mr. Dery said he was making the donation as a beneficiary of the Catholic education system.

He described the church as a dependable development partner and urged people who have prospered from the Catholic education, to show their appreciation by contributing in whatever way possible to enable others to benefit.

Receiving the chairs, Rev. Father Segkpeb described the donation as timely and hoped that it will serve as an encouragement to other citizensof the area to assist the church.

He announced that a number of facilities, including computer training centres would be provided for a large number of idle youth in the area.

The Nandom Naa Dr. Puoure Puobe Chiir, Paramount Chief of the Nandom Traditional Area urged his people to assess the government’s performance and decide whether it deserves their votes or not.
