Deputy Minister of Information ends nationwide tour in Accra

Accra, June 13, GNA – Mr Mohammed Baba Jamal, Deputy Minister of Information, on Monday ended his two-week nationwide tour in Accra with a call on Nii Armah Ashitey, Greater Accra Regional Minister.

The tour was to enable Mr Jamal to interact with staff of Information Services Department (ISD) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and discussed with them how to educate the people on government policies and programmes for national development.

In addition, he monitored management of government information at the grassroots level and ensured congenial atmosphere between ISD staff and MMDCEs in the discharge of their duties.

Mr Jamal pointed out that it was the responsibility of ISD to publicise government’s policies and programmes as well as development projects being undertaken in the communities, and as an integral part of the assemblies.

He urged the MMDCES to support the ISD with the basic inputs work efficiently and effectively.

Nii Ashitey stressed that development of the rural communities depended on democracy, decentralisation, budget and planning through the mobilisation of resources.

He said information officers needed to be encouraged to play their role in the local governance system.
