Deputy Minister Inspects Health Projects

A Deputy Minister of Health, Mr.. Samuel Nuamah Donkor, today/yesterday held an emergency meeting with contractors working on a three-storey block project and the Health Administration of the Ridge Hospital in Accra. He also inspected work on the ground floor of the building. The meeting was aimed at taking a critical look at the problems hindering the early completion of the project which started 23 years ago. It was also to assess what should be done immediately, especially with the ground floor, to enable doctors to have their own consulting rooms to work effectively. It will be recalled that early this year, the Ministry of Health decided to upgrade some Polyclinics including those at La and Mamobi to decongest activities at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. Mr.. Nuamah Donkor said since the Ridge Hospital has been designated as a Regional Hospital for Greater Accra, it is necessary that work on the project be speeded up to achieve this result. And also, the strategic location of the Ridge Hospital is important as far as health delivery is concerned in the Accra Metropolis. He said his Ministry has received reports that some doctors do not have enough consulting rooms, a situation which has frustrated some of them to the point of deciding to leave the hospital. Mr.. Nuamah-Donkor stressed that if work on the project is not quickened up there is the tendency of losing the services of these doctors.
