Deputy Finance Minister Dismisses Bawumia’s Cedi Critique as “Empty Sloganeering”

Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem has hit back at former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over recent criticisms of the cedi’s performance, accusing him of indulging in “empty sloganeering” during his time in government.

Dr Bawumia, speaking in London at the Young Executive Forum during his UK “Thank You Tour,” questioned the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi. He argued that the gains lacked any solid economic policy backing and suggested they were not sustainable.

But in a pointed rebuttal on Joy FM’s Midday News, Mr Nyarko Ampem dismissed the former Vice President’s concerns as political rhetoric, claiming the current administration was more focused on tangible outcomes than publicity.

“I’m not surprised by the statement made by the former Vice President. A man known for sloganeering during his time in office would naturally make such comments,” the Deputy Minister said.

He emphasized that while the previous administration focused on catchy phrases, the current government is delivering quiet but concrete results. “The difference is clear  while they shouted slogans, we are quietly delivering results,” he added.
