Depletion of the forests is causing havoc

Nkawie (Ash), July 17, GNA- Mr Mathew Adu-Bobi, the Atwima District Agricultural Science and Environmental Co-ordinator, has said that the depletion of the forests, wildlife and other natural resources is causing havoc for society.

He said wildlife provides mankind with a lot of necessities including food, employment, pleasures and medicine and regretted that the activities of some people were seriously destroying the species. Mr Adu-Bobi was addressing wildlife club members from Atwima second-cycle and basic schools at Nkawie on Friday as part of the biodiversity awareness campaign in the district.

Under the theme: “Biodiversity Conservation And Our Survival”, the campaign was organised by the Wildlife Society in collaboration with the Forestry Commission.

Mr Nelson Amelordzi, the Nkawie District Forestry Manager, said the forests and other natural resources are the only hope for the survival of mankind.

He urged students, the youth and all well meaning Ghanaians to help protect and conserve wildlife through sustainable farming practices like agro-forestry and organic farming.
