Department Of Game And Wildlife Reviews Strategies

Accra, June 29, The Department of Game and Wildlife has begun a strategic review project aimed at developing a comprehensive financial proposal for investment in the wildlife sector, a technical adviser told the GNA today. The Protected Area Management and Wildlife Conservation Project (PAMWCP) will review the sector’s institutional and economic basis and develop an appropriate strategic plan to implement the necessary reforms including building an institutional capacity in order to attract investment. The project which is being financed by a 600,000 dollars Japanese grant will also seek to demonstrate the important role of wildlife in the achievement of national social and economic development goals and of Vision 2020. DR Peter Howard of the World Conservation Union, which is providing technical assistance said the project will identity specific investment needs and prepare the necessary documentation to facilitate investment by the international donor community. He said wildlife has the potential to make significant contribution to the achievement of Ghana’s development objectives and needs to be given the needed support.
