DENMARK GIVES TO YILO KROBO

The National Union of Yilo Krobo Youth Association has presented items worth more than ?30 million to more than 10 organisations in the Yilo Krobo district to assist them in their operations. The items which consist of hospital, office and educational equipment as well as wheel chairs and sewing machines, were donated to the union by the Lion Club of Denmark, a Non-Governmental Organisation which is dedicated to poverty alleviation and gives assistance to the needy in the society. The beneficiary organisations include the Atua Hospital, the clinics at Somanya, Obawale and Agogo, the Yilo Krobo Secondary School, the Somanya Social Welfare Rehabilitation Centre and the Yilo Krobo District Assembly.

The President of the Union, Mr.. Henry Okrah, said the Union is now focusing on the completion of a multi-purpose community centre at Somanya from where most of its programmes will be implemented. He said when completed, the Centre will serve, among other things, as a rehabilitation centre for the disabled, classrooms for the adult literacy programme and as a vocational training centre to provide the youth with employable skills. Mr.. Okrah said the Lion Club of Denmark has already provided 34 typewriters and 20 sewing machines for the vocational school programme to begin by March next year. The Club has also donated three wheel chairs to the Union to start a rehabilitation centre for the disabled. A member of the Union, Mr.. F.K. Davies, who arranged for the gifts, said the Lion Club hopes to continue assisting the poor and the needy in the country. He advised the people to unite for the area’s rapid development. The Yilo Krobo District Chief Executive, Nene Dongoyo Osabutey, pledged the support of assembly for programmes of the Union to develop the district.
