Denmark commends Ghana for maintaining democratic governance

Accra, Jan 20, GNA – Denmark on Tuesday commended Ghana for strengthening democratic governance and pledged to continue the good relations between the two countries to promote development in Ghana and other African countries. Dr Per Stig Moller, Visiting Danish Foreign Affairs Minister, extolled Ghana for maintaining peace on the African continent and said democratic governance and the rule of law were crucial pre-requisites in the maintenance of peace for economic and social development.

Dr Moller, who is on a four-day official visit to the country, made the commendation when he called on his Ghanaian counterpart, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Accra, as part of activities lined up for him. Dr Moller said Denmark would continue to forge closer ties with Ghana as a peaceful country on the way to progress and that of Africa. Nana Akufo-Addo recalled the historic ties between the two countries since the 18th century, and said the visit of the Danish Foreign Minister; the second in a decade; was an indication of the growth of the strength in the relations between the two countries that had come of age.

Nana Akufo-Addo acknowledged the assistance of the Danish government to Ghana’s development. He said peaceful changeover of a ruling party to one in the opposition in the 2000 elections was a testimony to the rule of law and durable democratic practice and stated the determination of Ghana to conduct this year’s general election peacefully.
