Democracy thrives on popular participation – NCCE

The Upper East Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Pilate Pontius Apaabey Baba, on Thursday said democracy thrived on popular participation.

The Regional Director said this at Tongo in the Upper East Region to climax the Education programme embarked on by the Commission throughout the 13 Municipal and District Assemblies aimed at getting more people particularly women and Persons with Disability (PWDs) to participate actively in the forthcoming District Level Election (DLE).

He said participation was not limited to registering as a voter and voting but also to be voted for and entreated all to turn out in their numbers to vote on March 3.

The Regional Director lauded the support from the European Union and appealed for more of such support to enable it promote and sustain constitutional democracy in the country.

Mr Samuel Akolgo , a Senior Civic Education Officer of the at the Regional office of the Commissionm, said the district level election was very important for all to participate as it offered an opportunity to constituents to choose the right persons to the assembly to help bring about development.
