Delta Force not engaged to evict traders – Kumasi Mayor

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has denied reports that it has engaged members of Pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante group, Delta Force to evict traders doing business at unauthorized locations within the city.

According to the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), no one has hired the services of members of the group and called on the public to treat the reports with the contempt it deserves.

“This is falsehood, lies, mischievous and propaganda which can never be true”, Mayor of KMA, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi exclusively told mynewsgh.com’s Ashanti Regional Correspondent.

Reports were rife the Assembly led by Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi stormed market places in the metropolis with members of the vigilante group to eject illegal traders selling on pavements and on the roadside.

Responding to the allegations, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi stated the Assembly used personnel from the Ashanti Regional Police Command led by DSP Kawodie and military personnel to embark the exercise.

“Personnel from the Central Police Station and seven military personnel helped us to embark the decongestion… We did not use Delta Force members or vigilante groups”, he told our reporter Kwabena Danso-Dapaah

Meanwhile, the Manhyia Palace has given its backing to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) for the demolition of unauthorized structures within the Garden City as of the funeral of late Queen mother of Asante, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II scheduled December 1 2017.
