Kumasi, April 24, GNA – Supervisors at the ongoing Basic Examination Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Kumasi Metropolis have attributed the late arrival of question papers to the change in the system of distribution by the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC). They said unlike the previous years where question papers were deposited at the examination centres the previous day, the WAEC now distributes the papers from one centre to another resulting in some delays.
However, they say the new distribution is better since it helps to prevent leakages.
These were revealed during a visit to some examination centres within the metropolis by the Ghana News Agency (GNA). Mr. Gilbert Kwesi Aidoo, a Supervisor of the T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (SHS) centre, said though the papers had been delaying it had not affected the candidates in anyway. Mr Aidoo said out of the 1,152 candidates at the centre, eight of them were absent.
Kwame Wiredu, a candidate, said the first two papers they wrote on Monday were flexible.
Mr. Paul Ayamba, a supervisor at the Kumasi Anglican Senior High School (KASS) centre, four out of five absentees were girls.
