Delay broadcast of hearing of election case – PMVF

The Protect My Vote Forum (PMVF), a pressure group, has called for a delayed broadcast of the election petition case currently ongoing at the Supreme Court in Accra.

The court hearing is being broadcast live on television, radio and the internet but the organization believe a delayed broadcast would help the country than the live transmission.

This was in a statement issued in Koforidua on Tuesday, and signed by Mr Joshua Atta Mensah, the Convener of the forum and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

The forum observed that the country was losing a lot of man-hours as a result of time spent by workers in both public and private institutions watching the proceedings of the Supreme Court on television, radio or via the internet and the mobile phone.

It said a delayed broadcast of the proceedings after working hours would help save the many hours the economy was losing.

The statement congratulated the chief justice and members of the Supreme Court for the introduction of the broadcasting of the election petition which had led to public legal education and the demystification of court procedures.

It, however, called on the judges hearing the petition to protect every legitimate vote as well as the democracy of the country.

It pleaded with all political activists to exercise restraint on commenting on the case to help protect the peace in the country.
