Tema, March 24, GNA- The Tema Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) has called on parents and guardians to give their children the right orientation about sex to protect them against abuses.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Wednesday in Tema, Assistant Superintendent of Police Rebecca Nyamah, in charge of the Municipal Women And Juvenile Unit of the Police Service noted that most girls were sexually abused during festivities like Easter, Christmas, Valentine and traditional festivals, hence the need for them to be extra cautious during such moments. She said in 2004, her outfit recorded a total of 77 defilement and rape cases.
Between January and February this year, a total of 17 defilement and rape cases have been recorded.
Mrs Nyamah said children must also be educated about the negative effects involved in premarital sex.
She explained that cases of sexual abuses were delayed before being prosecuted in the law courts because some of the victims do not give accurate account of the incident.
