Accra Feb. 7, GNA – The Ministry of Defence on Monday received 55 Vehicles worth two million dollars from the Chinese government for the Ghana Armed Forces.
They included 40 Troops Carrying Vehicles (TCV) and 15 Pick-ups with spare parts.
Mr Zhang Keyaun, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana presenting the vehicles said the donation was the result of the close cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.
He said China-Ghana relations had been making progress in different areas and mentioned that a new project in cooperation with the Ministry would begin soon.
He said China had also benefited a lot from Ghana’s support, adding that, his country deeply appreciated Ghana’s consistent adherence to China’s policies and common concern in international affairs.
“China also appreciates the peace-keeping efforts by the Ghanaian government, and its armed forces in particular,” he held.
Mr Zhang expressed the hope that the military cooperation would contribute to the peace and stability and the socio-economic development of Ghana.
“We have every reason to believe that stronger ties between our two military will go along with the ever lasting China-Ghana friendly relations.”
Mr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Minister of Defence, said the existing cooperation had been strengthened by a number of officers of the Ghana Armed Forces attending various courses organized by 0Chinese Military Institutions for both junior and senior command.
The Defence Minister mentioned that the Ghana Armed Forces had previously benefited from a similar package and expressed the hope that China would take special interest in Ghana’s development.
