Defence minister “not bedridden”; only “cooling-off” in UK

Deputy Defence Minister, Mr. Ebenezer Teye-Larbi, has in an interview with XYZ News, denied media reports that his boss, Mark Woyongo, is “bedridden” and has, therefore, been flown out of the country for medical checkup.

Though he admits that Mr. Woyongo was recently admitted at the 37 Military Hospital in the national capital, Accra for medical treatment, Mr. Teye-Larbi says his boss is “fit and strong” but only decided to travel to the UK to “cool-off”.

According to him, Mr. Woyongo was not flown out in an incapacitated state as has been reported in the media.

The Daily Guide Newspaper reported on Monday June 24, 2013 that the Minister was “flown to an undisclosed country after suffering from a debilitating ailment which had afflicted him for some time now”.

The publication said Mr. Woyongo’s “situation worsened two weeks ago while at work, following which he was first rushed to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, to be stabilised”.

According to the paper, people close to Mr. Woyongo “claimed he had not been feeling well for some time now; a situation which slowed him down for his initial show of hard work at his new portfolio”.

It said the Navrongo Central MP might undergo a “surgical procedure to restore his health before his eventual return home”.

Mr Teye-Larbi, however, vehemently denies the report as “false”.
