Defence Minister lauds relations between Ghana and India

Accra, May 10, GNA – Defence Minister Lieutenant General Henry Smith on Monday lauded relations between Ghana and India, calling for further strengthening of ties between their militaries to enhance peace in the sub-region.

“The cooperation between our countries have been very beneficial and we look forward to more fruitful cooperation to strengthen existing bonds between us”

Lieutenant General Henry Smith was interacting with a 17-man team from the National Defence College (NDC) of India which called at “The Square” (Ministry of Defence) in Accra.

The team will be in the country for five days as part of the college’s annual study tour of foreign countries. At The Square, the team was briefed on Ghana’s foreign, defence and security policy and later lectured on the workings of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Air Vice Marshal Sapan Kumar Kamakar, a Senior Directing Staff of NDC and Leader of the team reaffirmed India’s commitment to boost relations with Ghana adding, the team would utilise the study tour appropriately.

The team later called on the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Peter Blay, where similar sentiments were echoed. While in Ghana, the team would pay courtesy calls on President John Evans Atta Mills, selected military institutions and facilities. Others are; Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Finance and Economic Planning, as well as some tourism sites across the country. 10 May 10
