Decomposed body of murder suspect found

The decomposed body of Daniel Agyening Boateng, the 45-year-old farmer of Seidi village near Nkawie in the Atwima district of Ashanti who hacked his wife Madam Akua Afriyie to death last June, has been found lying in the bush about five kilometers from the village.

The Police said he committed suicide. Police Superintendent Richard Baduweh in-charge of the Regional Police Public Relations unit told the press in Kumasi that some farmers who were going to farm last Thursday found the body in the bush. Lying beside it was a single barrel gun with an empty cartridge shell, an indication that he shot himself. He said the body was removed for autopsy after which it was released for burial. Agyening Boateng killed Afriyie because she allegedly threatened to divorce him following a misunderstanding last January. Boateng was said to have threatened to kill Afriyie if she dared divorce him and fearing for her life, she reported the matter to the Nkawie police who put him before the community tribunal on a charge of threat.

He was convicted on his own plea but was granted 500,000 cedis bail pending sentence. The tribunal however freed him at the next hearing only to carry out his threat.
