Decent work country programme to go to six more districts in C/R

Ajumako (C/R), Aug. 20, GNA – The Decent Work Country Programme under the National Labour Organisation (ILO) that was started in the Effutu and Ajumako Districts of the Central Region has now been extended to six other districts following success it chalked in the two districts. The districts are Mfantsiman, Twifo Lower Denkyira, Gomoa East, Gomoa West, Agona and Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese Districts.

Mr Patrice Caeser-Sowah, National Project Officer in charge of Youth Employment and Women Entrepreneur, made this known at the inauguration of the Ajumako District Youth Employment Taskforce at Ajumako on Monday. He said the taskforce would among other things ensure the capacity building of the youth in the Youth Employment Programme, to ensure its success with emphasis on practical agricultural. This would fulfil government’s policy of providing 100,000 jobs for the people by December 2009, he said. He said the programme would be extended to the 200 districts nationwide within the next few years. He commended the Delta Taskforce that handled the Decent Work Programme in the Ajumako and Effutu Districts for their hard work and commitment to duty that led to success of the programme. The eleven-member taskforce is headed by the District Chief Executive, Mr Peter Light Koomson.

Mr Koomson appealed to traditional and custodians of land to release more land for the youth to enable them go into Agriculture, adding that there is dignity in labour and the youth must be encouraged to go agriculture. The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Mr Ato Quainoo who chaired the function, sworn members of the taskforce into office.
