December 7 will be declared Kalyppo Day – Kennedy Agyapong

Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency Kennedy Ohene Agyapong says election day Wednesday, December 7 will be declared ‘Kalyppo Day’ in honour of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Mr Agyapong, therefore, charged supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to buy the multi-fruit drink and showcase it on the day.

The maverick politician said this on Thursday, November 3 during a mini-rally held at the Assin Fosu Lorry Park to introduce him to constituents as NPP’s parliamentary candidate.

It forms part of Nana Akufo-Addo’s five-day campaign tour of the Central Region.

“If you finish voting,” he said in Akan, “go buy Kalyppo because we will declare December 7 ‘Kalyppo Day’.” The Kalyppo craze came about after a picture of the NPP flagbearer sipping the fruit drink – perceived to be for kids – went viral.

The craze saw the advent of #KalyppoChallenge, which witnessed many Ghanaians taking weird images with the fruit juice. Ken Agyapong said the day will witness a much-anticipated electoral win for his party’s flagbearer, who will go into this year’s elections in a third attempt.

The businessman-cum-politician was critical of the current government, calling its leader President John Dramani Mahama as the most incompetent president in the whole world.

“After he said ‘1-district, 1-factory’ was not feasible,” the MP said about President Mahama, “he went about sharing tractors in every district”. He said the likes of Minister of Communications Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah rubbished the policy, yet they are gradually buying into it.

“Same way they said Free Education was not possible. But President Mahama went ahead to buy school uniforms for kids.”
