Decathlon Marks 8 Years in Ghana with Bold Commitment to Grassroots Sports

As part of its 8th anniversary celebration, Decathlon Ghana has announced a renewed focus on supporting athletes and sports clubs across Ghana, and not just in football. From affordability initiatives to technical support and visibility for players, the company is working to be more than just a gear supplier.

“We are the leading sports providers in Ghana now,” said Thompson Agbodo, Events and Brands Manager at Decathlon Ghana. “To be doing that consistently for eight years is a major feat. We’ve gone from selling equipment to standing beside athletes on and off the field.”

Decathlon’s influence is already being felt across Ghanaian football. The brand has partnered with the Ghana Football Association and recently showed up at the FA Cup and Women’s FA Cup finals, handing out awards and souvenirs to standout players. But it’s not just about the big leagues, Decathlon is expanding its support to include smaller clubs and associations that often go unnoticed.

“We’ve slashed costs significantly to help football clubs and lesser-known sports afford quality equipment,” said Mawuli Kofi, B2B Manager. “It’s about giving every sport, not just football, the chance to grow.”

The anniversary celebration, which runs from May 21 to June 1, includes a 10-day lineup of sports-themed activities for families and fans alike. Highlights include weekend family games, free delivery within Accra, equipment servicing, product customization, and up to 50% discounts on Adidas gear.

Francisca Arhin, the company’s E-commerce Manager, explained how technology is also playing a role in bringing sports closer to everyday Ghanaians. “We’re breaking down the barriers,” she said. “Through our online platforms, more people can access quality sportswear and gear from anywhere.”

As Decathlon heads into its ninth year in Ghana, the message is clear: sport isn’t just business, it’s community, opportunity, and transformation. Whether it’s footballers on the pitch, kids on a weekend run, or clubs fighting to stay afloat, Decathlon wants to be part of every step of the journey.
