Dec polls: We will crash warmongers – Ahwoi

A leading member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a local government expert, Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, has warned persons or groups who will foment trouble before, during and after the 2016 elections to rescind their decision because the law will deal drastically with them without fear or favour.

He said the NDC government under the leadership of President John Mahama is committed to safeguarding the existing peace and cohesion that Ghanaians are enjoying, adding that government will ensure Ghanaians go about their normal duties without fear and intimidation from any quarters.

Professor Ahwoi, who is part of the Chief of Staff’s team touring the Eastern Region campaigning for Mr Mahama, said this when the entourage paid a courtesy call on the New Juaben Traditional Council in Koforidua.

He pointed out that hitherto, the NDC was known to be a violent party due to where it came from, but the New Patriotic Party (NPP) under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo had taken over the violence mantle to the extent that they have no national chairman, no General Secretary, and no first vice chairman all because of the disunity in the party.

The local government expert said Ghana was the beacon of peace in Africa, thus, government would not permit anything to endanger the lives of the people.

He said President Barack Obama visited Ghana in his first term because of the peace and stability that existed in the country. “We won’t do anything that will jeopardise the country’s fledgling democracy,” he stated.
