Death toll in Mpatuam accident rises

Mpatuam (Ash), Oct 7, GNA – The death toll in the Mpatuam accident last Friday in which 11 people died on the spot has risen to 16 with the death of five people who were on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Ten out of the dead have now been identified and the police gave their names as Nana Kwasi, driver of the mini bus, Thomas Akowua, Kofi Donkor and Kwadwo Amoah all from the same family.

The others are Akwasi Afrifa, Albert Kwabena, Juliana Oppong, Kwaku Issac, Abena Asaasu and Stephen Akoto, a JSS student of Asuowin. Last Friday a Mercedes Benz mini bus that was travelling from Kumasi to Mpatuam in the Amansie West District collided with a tipper truck.

The driver of the mini bus was believed to have strayed into the lane of the truck when he was negotiating a curve resulting in the fatal accident.
