“Deal with election disputes impartially”- President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama on Monday called on Judges to exhibit high level of neutrality and impartiality in their dealing with election related disputes in the country.

“I have no doubt in your fair and just manner of dealing with issues and I want to urge you to stay in the same position as we approach this year’s elections so that all parties will be happy with our justice system.”

President Mahama made the call when he swore-in seven newly appointed Appeal Court Judges in Accra.

The Judges; Margaret Welbourne, Barbara Acquah-Yensu, Auril Anim-Yeboah, Cecilia Hanzzy Sowah, Getrude Torkonoo, Saeed Kwaku Gyan and Issifu imoro Tanko Amadu, administered the oaths of allegiance, Secrecy and Judicial Oath.

President Mahama urged them to be transparent and neutral in the discharge of their duties to justify the confidence reposed in them.

He congratulated them on their promotion and promised that government would continue to provide the necessary logistics and infrastructure to enable them to work efficiently in their new positions.

“The Judiciary, as an arm of government, needs to be supported adequately to enable them to discharge its duties and we shall continue to carry out our responsibilities towards the enhancement of its duties.”

Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood, Chief Justice, who witnessed the swearing-in ceremony called on the newly appointed Judges to speedily dispose off cases in a fair, just and an acceptable manner.

Justice Auril Anim-Yeboah, on behalf of her colleagues, pledged to defend the rule of law by remaining neutral in their judgement.
