Deal swiftly with political terrorists- Aliu

Yeji (B/A) Nov. 3, GNA – Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has asked the security agencies to arrest and prosecute political activists, who engaged in acts of vandalism and terrorized their political rivals. This he said was the only way to ensure incident-free Presidential and Parliamentary polls on December 7.

The Vice President, who was reacting to concerns expressed by the Chief and people of Yeji about acts of political vandalism, intolerance and intimidation by some activists of the political parties, however, cautioned the security agencies to follow the due process and be fair to all.

Alhaji Mahama, who is touring parts of the Brong Ahafo Region, inspected the Yeji Office of the New Patriotic Party, which had been vandalised.

He was told about how unknown persons smeared faeces in one of the offices of the Party.

At a durbar held in honour of the Vice President at Yeji, Nana Yaw Krabresi II expressed concern about the rising trend of political intolerance in the area and advised the people to co-exist peacefully. Responding, Alhaji Mahama said any security personnel, who condoned acts that threatened the peace and security of the area would be dealt with.

“You must remain neutral but be up and doing to deter the deviants… We can not allow few bad nuts to create problems for all of us.”

The Vice President said democracy was about the promotion of the welfare of the people and not a battle between enemies. He cautioned those who took politics as a physical battle that their efforts and sacrifices would be in vain since those they fought for would shun them when the law caught up with them.

Their energies, he said should be used to fight poverty, which was their greatest enemy and not each other. 03 Nov. 04
