De Kuyper’s Aromatic Schnapps re-launched in Kumasi

Kumasi (Ashanti Region), 30 Nov, ’98- The Dutch brewed De Kuyper’s Aromatic Schnapps, in a new package but maintaining its original taste and quality, was re-launched in Kumasi over the weekend.

The oldest schnapps to be produced in Holland since 1695, De Kuyper’s was first introduced in the Gold Coast(Ghana) in the 17th century.

The drink, used often in performing traditional and customary rites, was out of the market for sometime until it was re-introduced in 1992 by management of Nimbus Company Limited, in Accra.

Nana Wiafe Akenten the Third, Offinsohene, said at the ceremony that De Kuyper’s was a leading drink used for all customary occasions in the past and hoped that, with its re-introduction into the market, people will patronise it.

Mr Kofi Aning, Managing Director of Nimbus Company, said De Kuyper’s has not compromised its high quality standards.

He said, however, that owing to the climatic conditions in the country which makes the white package to become brown easily over a short period, it has become necessary for the manufacturers to change the packaging to make it more convenient to handle and maintain its identity.
