DCE vows firm measures to tackle child labour

Nsuta (Ash), Jan 25, GNA – The District Chief Executive for Sekyere Central, Mr Ebenezer Akuoko Frimpong, has said he would take firm measures to tackle the situation where children are engaged as porters, particularly on market days.

Many school children in the area often abandon the classroom to provide labour and make money when it is market day.

Mr Frimpong said this was unacceptable and that the district assembly would ensure that this ended.

“This certainly cannot be allowed to continue”, Mr Frimpong told the Ghana News Agency at Nsuta.

He said the assembly would meet all stakeholders to discourage child labour in all forms.

Mr Thomas Amoako, the District Director of Education, said there was the need to adopt multi-sectional approach to deal with the problem.
