DCE urges stakeholders on education for better teaching methods

Bechem (B/A), March 4, GNA- Mr. Nicholas Anane-Adjei, Tano District Chief Executive, has called on stakeholders in education to set targets for better teaching and learning methods in schools in the district. He appealed to parents to provide their children with all learning materials to enable them to achieve laudable academic results. Mr. Anane-Adjei was addressing a District Level School Performance Appraisal meeting (SPAM) organized by the District Education Directorate at Bechem.

He emphasized the need for pupils to be disciplined, which he said was a vital ingredient for success.

Mrs. Beatrice Acheampong, Acting District Director of Education expressed regret about the district’s poor results in the 2003 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The district placed 11th out of the 13 districts in Brong Ahafo and this is woefully unacceptable, she said, adding that 836 out of the 1,850 candidates presented for the examination passed. She said the directorate had adopted strategies including extra classes for students to help uplift the standard of education in the district.

Selected experienced teachers from the directorate and St Joseph’s Training College, Bechem, will go round the schools to teach final year JSS students on some selected subjects, Mrs Acheampong said.

At an open forum, the Head teacher of Brosankro Community Junior Secondary School (JSS), Mr. Oppong Attah appealed for measures to check truancy, absenteeism and alcoholism among teachers.
