Atimatim (Ash), Jan. 21, GNA – The Afigya-Kwabre District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, has threatened to terminate jobs awarded to non-performing contractors. He said the Assembly would not hesitate to take away projects from contractors, who were found to be unduly delaying in their execution. The DEC said contractors should ensure that they worked strictly within schedule and meet contract specifications.
Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku gave the warning when he inspected some projects in the district assisted by the District Coordinating Director, Mr John Kof= i Adomako and heads of the Planning, Engineering and Town and Country plannin= g departments of the Assembly. The projects inspected included the construction of culverts on the Pankrono-Atimatim road, Wawase-Kobeda and the Mpobi-Wawase-Swedru roads. Other projects were a two semi-detached nurses’ quarters at Aboabogya, a four classroom block at Maase and the construction of an Information Communications Technology (ICT) centre at Hemang near Ntonso. The rest were a reservoir for Small Town Water Project at Ejuratia t= o serve Ejuratia, Ankaase and Mpobi communities, dining-hall for Aduman Senio= r High and the Kodie market.
At Atimatim, the DCE asked the contractors to speed up the pace of work on the road and said everything should be done to ensure that it was ready within four weeks. According to him, the dust nuisance the people in the area have been forced to live with needed to end. The Atimatim road project was awarded five years ago under the Government of Ghana (GOG) Feeder Road Project but had been delayed due to lack of adequate funding. At Aboabogya, Mrs Rita Bating-Atiirimbey, Midwife of the Health Centre, appealed for a laboratory and facilities for scan services.
