DCE threatens action against illegal sale of premix fuel

Mr Joseph Tetteh Angmor, the Upper-Manya Krobo District Chief Executive (DCE), has warned all those hording premix fuel and selling at exorbitant prices to stop or face the law.

He warned that the Assembly would not shield any person involved.

The DCE has also appeal to people to volunteer information about those indulging in the illegal sales to enable the law enforcement agents to deal with them.

Mr Angmor was reacting to allegations that some persons in the Akateng area had been hoarding and selling premix fuel at exorbitant prices to canoe fishermen and canoe owners on the Islands in the area.

The GNA Media Auditing and Tracking of Development Project team being sponsored by Star-Ghana in the district received an information that, some people were hording and selling the Premix fuel at Gh¢15.00 instead of the government price of Gh¢7.00 per a gallon .

As a result, most fishermen had anchored their canoes and were not working whiles women who sell fish were also out of business reducing the vibrancy of the popular Akateng market days on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Akateng is one of the fishing communities along the Volta Lake in the Upper-Manya Krobo District and their main occupation is fishing and farming.

It also has one of the vibrant markets in the region with lake transportation being their main source of carting trading goods from the Islands on the lake to the market.

According to the DCE, last week he personally supervised the sale of the premix fuel to ensure that it was sold at the approved prices following reports of the inflated prices and indicated that, the assembly is monitoring events to halt the illegal sale of the premix fuel.
