DCE speaks against expensive weddings and funerals

Nkrankrom (B/A), Jan. 5, GNA – The Asutifi District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Michael Nsiah-Agyapong, has deplored expensive funerals and weddings by parents to the detriment of their children’s education. Speaking at a ceremony at Nkrankrom to mark the 40th anniversary of the local Methodist Primary School, he urged parents to give priority attention to the formal education of their children.

“The government is on course in steering the country to achieve a middle level income status and this can only be attained if the majority of Ghanaians are literate,” the DCE said. Mr. Nsiah-Agyapong lauded the school’s authorities for making the school one of the best in the district. He however, expressed regret that a land tenure problem had stalled a GETFund school project in Nkrankrom. “Henceforth any community that hesitates to provide land for the execution of development projects would lose the project to another community that will be ready with land,” the DCE warned.

Mr K.A. Amankwah, Headteacher, said the school started in 1962 with 26 pupils and now has 320 pupils. He appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Asutifi District Assembly to provide accommodation for the school’s teachers who are compelled to trek daily from Nkaseim, town about six kilometres away. He thanked Action Aid, Ghana, The Model Group (TMG), Community School Alliance (CSA) and Improvement and Learning through Partnership Schools (ILP), for assisting in the growth of the school. 05 Jan. 04
