DCE says Kete Krachi has many tourist sites

Kete-Krachi, April 12, GNA – Mr Joseph Ntoso, Krachi-West District Chief Executive, at the weekend urged both the government and the private sector to help the district to market its tourist potentials. He said rapids, islands and islets on the Volta Lake in the Kete-Krachi District could sustain tourist arrivals throughout the year if promoted alongside water sports.

Mr Ntoso was briefing Mr Joseph Nayan, the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, on his maiden visit to Kete-Krachi after assumption of office. He said there were also historical buildings, some of them relics of German presence in the area years ago, which would be of interest to tourists.

”What the district needs is hospitality facilities such as hotels and also the development of a marketing strategy to put Kete-Krachi on the tourism map.”

At the lakeside he showed Mr Nayan what was left of Kete-Krachi after the waters of the River Volta submerged it when it was dammed for hydropower.

He said apart from the lake and its features, Kete-Krachi also had relics of the intellectual works of Alhaji Oumarou Titibriki, a Moslem scholar who was said to have settled at Kete-Krachi in the 15th century. Other attractions included the Krachi Dente shrine, a popular destination for people seeking spiritual protection.
