Winneba (C/R), Sept. 29, GNA – The District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Captain Steve Kwamina Armah (rtd) has urged custodians of Odupong-Ofaakor lands to re-examine their stand in the new Kasoa market complex issue critically to ensure its speedy completion. He was reacting to recent press statements in connection with the new Kasoa market by Nai Otsor Adawu Darko Tetteh II, Traditional Priest of the Council on behalf of Nai Odupong Awushie II, Chief of Odupong Ofaakor, at a press conference at Kasoa.
Capt. Armah denied allegations levelled against the District Assembly by the Chief Priest that the assembly was delaying the completion of the project.
He expressed regret that Nai Tetteh, whose action had caused a setback to the project, had ironically turned round to accuse the Assembly for not being able to complete the market on time.
Capt. Armah said Nai Tetteh, who is also the spokesman for the leaders of Ofaakor Stool lands, had already influenced traditional authorities in the area to institute legal action against the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District assembly on the project.
He said the case was currently pending before the Agona Swedru High Court, and wondered why the same person could turn round to accuse the Assembly of failing to expedite action for the completion of the project.
Capt. Armah told the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Winneba on Sunday that in the lawsuit being pursued by the landowners, the custodians of the land are making a host of demands, which the assembly found extremely impossible to meet.
He said the Assembly was fully aware of the serious implications construction of the Mallam-Yamoransa trunk road might have on the present Kasoa Market and had since last year put in place effective measures to finish the project in good time, had it not been the litigation over the land.
He said the State had spent billions of cedis on the project, adding that the government was not happy about the current development surrounding the project.
The DCE, therefore, urged the Nai Tetteh and the Traditional Leaders of the Odupong-Ofaakor Stool to seriously reconsider their position as far as the new market project was concerned to ensure the success of the project.
Capt. Armah said in the interest of peace, unity and socio-economic progress of the District the factions involved in the case must exercise restraint for the court to decide on the issue..
