Mensakrom, (C/R), April 27, GNA – Mr Martin Luther Obeng, District Chief Executive of Agona East, has assured the people in the area, especially residents of Mensakrom, that the persistent power cuts would soon end.
This is because the Assembly has arranged with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Agona Swedru to install additional transformers to help solve the problem. Mr Obeng said this in response to an appeal made by the members of IN God We Trust Association during the celebration of the sixth anniversary at Mensakrom in the Agona East District of the Central Region.
The residents complained that they experience at least 10 power outages day and appealed to the DCE and MP to help find solutions to it, adding that, 93All our electrical gadgets have gone to waste.” The DCE expressed the hope that the installation of additional transformers and cables would ensure 24 hours power supply to Mensakrom and the other towns in the district. He expressed regret that the frequent power cuts had seriously affected the work of local industries and small scale businesses set up by the inhabitants thus hampering the economic development of the area.
The DCE said the government had awarded the contract for the tarring of some feeder and other roads in the district, including those of Mensakrom, to facilitate transportation of goods and services. Mr Obeng said the level of education had deteriorated considerably despite the provision of adequate educational structures, explaining that the performance of the pupils and students was not encouraging.
He, therefore, called on stakeholders in education to intensify their research and work to reverse the situation. Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng, Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East, urged the people at Mensakrom to contribute their quota towards the development of the area.
The MP asked the executives of the association to show commitment, transparency, probity and accountability to the members to enable them to achieve their aims and objectives. He called on the members to educate parents and guardians on the need to send their children to school especially, the girl-child, since education is the only property which could not be stolen from a child when bequeathed.
Mr Gawornu Kumardzie, Chairman of the association, appealed to the DCE and MP to help re-construct the roads in Mensakrom to transport goods and services.
