DCE orders teachers to refund printing fees collected from pupils

Kwankyeabo (Ash), Feb 17, GNA – Mr Wilberforce Owusu-Ansah, Atwima-Mponua District Chief Executive, has ordered two headteachers who collected money from their pupils as printing fees to refund the money to the pupils.

He was not happy with the collection of money in spite of the Ministry of Education and Sports directive to schools not to collect money from pupils.

Mr Owusu-Ansah gave the order during his familiarisation visit to Kwankyeabo and Abaasua communities where it came to light that the headteachers in the two communities had collected money ranging from 5,000 cedis to 21,000 cedis for the printing of examination papers. The DCE told the headteachers that if they used the capitation grant wisely, it could even cover the printing fees.

He advised circuit supervisors to pay regular visits to schools to check the proper use of the capitation grant.

Mr Owusu-Ansah also cautioned School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) not to condone and connive with school heads to sabotage the capitation grant policy. Any transaction on the grant, he said must be transparent so as to ensure its judicious use. The DCE also visited Goigoikrom where he interacted with the community.
