DCE Of Nkoranza Hauls 6 Before Court

FOR DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER

The District Chief Executive of Nkoranza, Mr. James Kwabena Appiah Awuah has dragged six persons who style themselves as member of Nkoranza Youth Association to a Sunyani High Court for defamation of character. The six, made up of two ex-convicts and four others are Baffour Opoku Bediako (ex-convict) B.B Addai (ex-convict), Yeboah Castowel, Kwame Effah, Kwame Adu Gyanfi and Adu-Boffour Frank.

In a petition addressed to the president His Excellency John Agyekum Kufour, the group accused the DCE of being arrogant, disrespectful, corrupt, power drunk among others. They appealed to the president to remove him from office.

In an interview with Daily Guide the DCE said he took the decision to drag the six persons to court because they have no basis whatsoever to defame him the way they did. According to Mr. Appiah Awuah, it would be absurd on his side to sit down to allow a few disgruntled persons to drag his had won reputation in the mud. He said the time has come for people to realize that the repeal of the Criminal Libel Law from our status books doesn?t give anyone the license to defame others for no apparent reason.

In a related issue the Nkoranza Youth for Development, a group made up of a cross section of the youth in Nkoranza from all the political parties also called a press conference during the weekend to register their protest at the said petition to the president. They appealed to the president to treat the petition with the contempt that it deserves.

The spokesman for the Nkoranza Youth for Development used the occasion to warn te petition to desist from anything that will stall development in Nkoranza. According to the group, the DCE is a hardworking person who has an untainted character. They said since coming to power the DCE has worked tirelessly to develop the district and as such any attempt to defame him would be met with stiff resistance
