DCE interacts with opinion leaders

Ofoase (Ash), April 1, GNA – Dr Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng, Asante-Akim South District Chief Executive, has urged traditional authorities, assembly members and unit committees as well as opinion leaders to strive to peacefully co-exist to bring about practical development to their communities.

He said a house divided against itself, cannot stand hence the need for them to respect the views of each other and eschew backbiting and other divisive tendencies which turn to undermine progress. Dr Gyamfi-Fenteng, who made the call at a forum with opinion leaders at Ofoase, entreated them to be law-abiding and avoid acts that will amount to undermining the law.

He reminded them that the decentralisation structures were non-partisan and therefore, urged them to use them for exploration of avenues to move their areas forward in terms of developments and progress.

The DCE stressed the need for assembly members to hold regular fora with the people to explain policies of the government and programmes of the assembly to enable them contribute positively towards their implementation.

He, however, cautioned assembly and unit committee members not to get involved in any issues related to chieftaincy, as that was the reserve of traditional authorities.

Nana Tiefun Ampratwum II, Omanhene of the Ofoase Traditional Area, appealed to assembly and unit committee members not to distant themselves from the traditional council but rather co-operate with the council in the pursuance of their activities.
