Amasaman (GA), Oct. 12, GNA – A 10-member Land and Chieftaincy Dispute Resolution Committee, which was formed by the Ga East and West Districts Chiefs Association, has been inaugurated at Amasaman. The committee would mediate, negotiate, reconcile and arbitrate in land and chieftaincy disputes brought before it.
Addressing members of the committee, Mr Eric Busby Quartey-Papafio, District Chief Executive for Ga West noted that peace and stability are fundamental requirements for accelerated development in every society.
“Without peace and stability all our efforts at employment generation, increased productivity, accelerated economic growth and social and economic well-being of our people, will come to nothing.” Mr Quartey-Papafio said that the bane of the people and communities in the Ga West and East Districts were numerous land and chieftaincy disputes, adding, “until we are able to limit and eventually eradicate conflicts over land and titles of office, we will not be able to mobilise our people for development.” The DCE said peace and stability would also attract investors into the districts and create numerous avenues for the exploitation of natural resources and the opening up of employment avenues, since government alone cannot meet the developmental needs of the communities. He hoped that the committee would use the time at its disposal for fruitful mediation, negotiation, reconciliation and arbitration of disputes.
The members of the committee are Nana Bram Okae II, Chairman, Mpehuasem Chief, Nii Amaah Sogblah III, Haatso Chief, Nii Tettey Okpe II, Amamole Chief, Nii Afutu Brempong III, Danfa Chief, and Nii Kwame Ankrah I, Mayera-Faase Chief.
The rest are Nana Obuobi I, Mayera Akwesi Darkuman Queenmother, Naa Dede Oblie I, Amasaman Queenmother, Ga West District Police Commander, Ga West District Town and Country Planning Officer and Mr George Amoh (CHRAJ), Member/Secretary to the committee. Nana Bram Okae, Chairman of the Committee said the committee would try its possible best to help curb the problem, which land guards create among chiefs by destroying properties in the area.
