DCE gets the nod

Kumawu (Ash), April 28, GNA – Mr Jacob Kofi Dankwah, the President’s nominee as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere-Afram Plains was on Monday given the nod at the assembly’s meeting at Kumawu in Ashanti. He polled 35 votes out of 37 votes cast representing 94.5 per cent. Earlier, Mr Daniel Appiah, an assemblyman at Kumawu, was elected the Presiding Member, when he polled 34 votes as against his contestant, Mr Fred Duah, also an assembly member, who had three votes. At the Sekyere East Assembly meeting held at Effiduase, Mr Kwadwo Addai, the President’s nominee for the DCE, failed to secure two-thirds of the votes cast.

He had 18 out of the total 28 votes cast. As a result, the assembly would reconvene in 10 days for another round of election. Addressing the two assemblies after the elections, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Opoku Manu, advised the people not to bring politics into the assembly’s concept. He said the assemblies are non-partisan with a mandate to bring developments to improve the living standards of the people, and therefore it was important for everyone to contribute his or her quota towards the realisation of such goals. Mr Dankwah, the new DCE for Sekyere-Afram Plains, thanked the Assembly for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work closely with assembly members and all stakeholders for an accelerated development of the district.
