DCE expresses satisfaction at Grass-Cutter production

Bonsueku (C/R), Dec. 31, GNA – About 20 farmers in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District of the Central Region have embarked on intensive grass-cutter production as their contribution towards fulfilling the country’s meat requirements. They are being supported by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), the International Labour Organization (ILO)’s Decent Work Programme (DWP), and Heifer International For Grasscutter Production (HIFGP) with production materials to promote and sustain the business.

Mr Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quaye, District Chief Executive, disclosed these at a special farmers meeting at Bonsueku, near Senya-Beraku. He said that the three supporting bodies had assisted farmers undertaking grasscutter ventures to secure houses and breeding stocks for their work. Mr Abbam-Quaye said besides, the beneficiary grasscutter farmers had been given adequate training on the business. He told the meeting that he was particularly happy with the keen interest they had developed in the grasscutter production in the District.

Mr Abbam-Quaye was optimistic that if the current growing interest, which the farmers had cultivated in grasscutter production was maintained, the District would be one of the leading producers in the country in future. He expressed his appreciation to MOFA, the ILO and HIFGP for their support and appealed to them to prolong their dealings with the farmers in order to attract more youngsters into agriculture in general. The DCE charged the farmers to work harder in the coming years and always rely on the useful advice and guidelines offered them by the District Agricultural Extension Officers for greater successes. Mr Abbam-Quaye also commended the District Director of Agriculture for the District, Mr Gershon Wodzra, for his good works during the year and expressed the hope that it would not be “a nine-day wonder”.
