DCE expresses concern about indiscipline in NDC

The Gomoa West District Chief Executive, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah has appealed to the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be ruthless in curbing indiscipline in the party.

He said it was unfortunate that some members wanted to take the leniency of the leadership of the party to mean their weaknesses to do whatever they want to do.

“We cannot run a party like that,” Mr Aidoo-Mensah said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Apam.

Citing example, he said, recently some people who aspired to be members of parliament went through free, fair and transparent primaries, and those who lost made pledges to support the winners in their campaign to win the seats for the party.

He said immediately after that, some of the same people who had made the pledges had started filing their posters to contest as independent candidates.

“Is their decision to contest as independent candidates a ploy to get the party to pay expenses they incurred in contesting the primaries or to get the party to promise them positions should the party win the December election? Mr Aidoo-Mensah asked.

He said as members of a political party, they must work as a family, and any member who wanted to go solo must cease to be a member of the family and must have no benefit from the family.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah said the party leadership must not allow people to take the party to ransom and those who want to go independent must be told that they forfeit their membership if they do not rescind their decision.

He said the 2012 election was crucial to the existence of the NDC and nothing must be done to cause the downfall of the party, adding that, judging from the achievements of the Mills-led government, the party must win the election hands-down.**
